(People often joke that the individual is the logical endpoint of an intersectional approach that divides people into smaller and smaller groups – but this misunderstands the fundamental reliance on group identity. However, there is nothing complex about the overarching idea of intersectionality … Nothing could be simpler. It reduces everything to one single variable, one single topic of conversation, one single focus and interpretation: prejudice … Theory … always assumes that, in every situation, some form of Theoretical prejudice exists …

All this ‘sophistication’ keeps intersectionalists busy … under an overarching metanarrative of Social Justice, which seeks to establish a caste system based on Theorized states of oppression. …

[This] is markedly different from the activism for universal human rights that characterized the civil rights movements … [which] sought and seek to equalize opportunities by criminalizing discrimination, remedying disenfranchisement, and defeating bigotry by making prejudice on the grounds of immutable characteristics socially unacceptable. …

Critical race Theory and intersectionality are characterized by a great deal of divisiveness, pessimism, and cynicism. … [Its] hallmark paranoid mind-set, which assumes racism is everywhere, always, just waiting to be found, is extremely unlikely to be helpful or healthy for those who adopt it. …”

“Pour moi, c’est le début de la déliquescence : quand Nicolas Sarkozy institue un ministère de l’Identité nationale et propose cette équation au débat, la libération de la parole raciste est immédiate. Cela a désinhibé les gens et les vannes ne se sont plus jamais fermées depuis. Sarkozy a ramené la France aux dimensions de son être à lui et cela reste pour moi un vrai traumatisme.

Surtout, cette formule est inepte car, même sans immigration postcoloniale, la France comprendrait des personnes non occidentales. Le pays se déploie sur plusieurs océans et compte des populations excentrées. Prenez les Guyanais : vous avez des Hmong guyanais dont les aînés furent les alliés de la France lors de la guerre d’Indochine, et qui durent fuir les représailles après la défaite. Ils furent relogés en Guyane, y apportèrent leurs traditions qu’ils tentent de conserver. Ils ne deviendront pas occidentaux par décret. On se soucie peu, dans l’Hexagone, des Amérindiens de la Guyane française. Pourtant, c’est depuis leur terre ancestrale qu’est lancée Ariane, et nul n’envisage que cela se fasse depuis la Creuse.

Je crois qu’on ne devrait jamais définir la culture ou l’identité française en faisant l’économie de toutes ces présences. Il s’agit souvent de groupes qui n’ont pas choisi la France, qui leur est tombée dessus ou les a déportés pour en faire des esclaves. Une lecture unique de l’histoire et de l’identité dans un pays archipel, avec une histoire plurielle, est illusoire. Dans le contexte français, soumise à l’histoire du pays, la formule de Sarkozy ne tient pas.

Lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les collabos, d’une certaine façon, aimaient leur pays, et les résistants aussi, au point de risquer leur vie pour chasser l’envahisseur. Lesquels auraient dû quitter la France ? Idem pour la période coloniale : qui des colons ou des anticolonialistes auraient dû partir au nom d’un idéal ? Les uns voyaient dans la colonisation une source de prospérité. Pour les autres, il s’agissait d’un avilissement. Les Français ont, depuis longtemps, des manières différentes d’aimer leur pays. Elles peuvent entrer en conflit.”

“Nach über einem Jahr Ampel wird sichtbar, auf was grüne Politik im Bund abzielt, wenn sie Gestaltungsspielraum erhält: auf den Lebensstil der Mittelschicht. Ihr gehören all jene an, die sich von ihrem Gehalt gerade so eine schöne Wohnung, ein- bis zweimal im Jahr einen Urlaub und vielleicht ein Auto leisten können, bis zu solchen, die es zu einem Eigenheim und Fernreisen bringen.

Sie machen noch immer deutlich mehr als die Hälfte der Bevölkerung aus. Im Vergleich zu ihren Vorfahren und zu Zeitgenossen in vielen Teilen der Welt leben sie ein Leben in Luxus. Denn eine durchschnittliche Wohnfläche von rund 48 Quadratmetern pro Kopf, ein unüberschaubares Angebot an Lebensmitteln jeden Tag und jährlich 11.000 gefahrene Kilometer im Auto sind genau das: ressourcenfressender Luxus. So kann das nicht bleiben.

Was bedeutet das? Wer das Privileg hat, im eigenen Haus zu wohnen, wird sich in den nächsten Jahren Geld für eine klimaneutrale Heizung zurücklegen müssen – auch wenn dies Urlaub in der Eifel oder im Garten bedeutet. Statt in Reisen oder Elektronik wird Einkommen in Energieeffizienz und umweltfreundliche Produktion fließen. Die Armen leben schon heute gezwungenermaßen umweltfreundlich, die richtig Reichen können sich Klimaschutz ohne Einbußen leisten. Verzichten muss die Mittelschicht. Das ist nicht schön, aber notwendig.”
